Linden Lab Announces Top 10 Linden Prize Finalists

Virtual Helping Hands is honored to be selected as one of the Top 10 Linden Prize Finalists.

In the Second Life blog announcing the Linden Prize finalists, Mark Kingdon (SL: M Linden), CEO of Linden Lab states, "Many programs in Second Life have greatly enhanced and changed thousands of lives around the world and we, at Linden Lab, are not only inspired by their accomplishments, but also want to formally recognize the best-of-the-best with a Linden Prize. There were so many wonderful projects to choose from this year and I want to thank all of the Linden Prize applicants and congratulate the 10 finalists. Regardless of who wins, the world is a better place because of you."

Visit the Second Life blog as Virtual Helping Hands will be highlighted along with the other finalists. The VHH team wishes to congratulate the other finalists selected and we look forward to the announcement of the winner on June 1st.

VHH Contribution and Collaboration is recognized in the Telstra-TJC Christopher Newell Prize

Dr. Denise Wood, from the University of Southern Australia, submitted the winning paper for "The Inaugural Telstra-TJA Christopher Newell Prize." The best paper submitted to TJA demonstrating the benefits of telecommunications in assisting people with disabilities acknowledges the contribution made to UniSA in the area of accessibility in virtual worlds. Dr. Wood stated in her acceptance speech, "This kind of research represents the contributions of many people, especially those who have personal experience of disability and have shared their experiences with us in this research. There are also many colleagues who share this award including our programmers, Charles Morris (lead developer Virtual Helping Hands), Darren Candler (Metadas Media), UniSA colleagues, our partner institutions funded through an Australian Learning and Teaching Council project, and volunteer organisations in the 3D virtual world, Second Life, especially Virtual Helping Hands who have collaborated with us in this project."

The paper is available here.
